HYGIENE MATTERS!
Wash your feet immediately on returning home from outside
Take a bath on getting drenched, if needed, add a disinfectant to your bathing water to wash away the germs
Do not get into AC rooms when you are wet
Put your wet clothes & socks for washing
Stay clean & dry
Keep your nails short, clean & dry to avoid fungal infections
Wash your hands with soap or handwash before eating food
Shampoo your hair 2-3 times a week to keep your scalp healthy
Avoid make-up to keep acne at bay
Seal your wounds with bandage or medical tape
Ensure your rainy wear (raincoat or windsheater) is clean for use
Opt for rainy footwear like flip-flops, floaters, water-proof shoes, etc
Keep fast-dry clothes & absorbent towels handy
SWITCH TO A HEALTHY REGIME
Drink boiled or purified water to avoid water-borne diseases
Hydrate your body with atleast 8 glasses of water to flush out toxins
Consume warm fluids like soups, kadhas, broths, etc as it promotes mucus drainage & soothes the throat
A cup of turmeric milk before going to bed will be beneficial to fight sinus & lung infections
Increase intake of Vitamin C in your diet to boost immunity
Wash and include seasonal fruits & vegetables in your diet
Avoid or limit the consumption of brinjal, tomatoes & leafy veggies as they are prone to infestation by pests
Consume boiled or cooked food only. Steam raw salads for eating
Add ginger, garlic and turmeric as they have anti-infective & anti-inflammatory properties
Opt for light cooking oil like sunflower, olive or corn oil
Lower down your salt intake as it causes water retention & may result in high blood pressure
Avoid watery foods like buttermilk, lassi, rice, melons, etc.
Avoid sea-foods or meat as it is the breeding season for fishes
Avoid the consumption of deep-fried or spicy foods as you may end up having indigestion, bloating or acidity
Avoid consumption of junk food and leftovers
Exercise regularly (walk or skip for atleast 30 minutes) to improve your respiratory health
Gently rinse your nostrils with saline water to improve nasal hygiene & sinus health
Practice steam inhalation regularly
Sleep well to stay fit mentally & physically
Practicing Yogasana like Pranayama, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Matsya Asana, etc. improves oxygenation & lung capacity
DEVELOP A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT AT HOME
Keep first-aid supplies, particularly disinfectants, bandages, cold & fever and stomach medicines handy
Keep candles, emergency lights & power banks ready
Stock up on mosquito repellents
Check for dampness in roofs and walls
Check electrical fittings to avoid shocks
Look out for termite infestations
Wax or oil the wooden doors to protect them from swelling
Protect wooden flooring & furniture from moisture
Place naphthalene balls in closet to absorb excess moisture
Place a big doormat & umbrella holder near the door
STAY FIT WHILE STAYING TRENDY
Wear clean & dry clothes
Iron your clothes before you put them in your closet to avoid molds
Opt for fabrics that are free-flowing like synthetic, rayon, crepe, etc. that are not skin-fit & dry quickly
Avoid heavy cotton, jeans, silk or jute fabrics as they absorb water and do not dry quickly
Choose dark and bright colours as they can absorb muddy stains and uplift your mood
Knee-length kurtis, skirts or capris for casuals would be apt to avoid getting drenched
